Channel 8's Larry Himmel.
If you haven't cruised through Otay Lakes
lately, you are in for a shock. Pastures
have been replaced with plaster. These gentle
rolling hills have been gentrified, seemingly
overnight.
New neighbors can't live by homeowner's
fees alone -- they must have sweets. That's
why Allen Haber and his wife opened The
Treatery. Read

SENATOR DUCHENY ANNOUNCES SELECTION OF
“THE TREATERY” IN OTAY RANCH
AS 40TH DISTRICT SMALL BUSINESS
OF THE YEAR
Chula Vista – Senator Denise Moreno
Ducheny (D-San Diego) will honor the owners
of The Treatery, Allan and Monica Haber,
located in Heritage Towne Center as the
40th State Senate District’s “Small
Business of the Year.” Senator Ducheny
nominated the Habers, who have been Chula
Vista residents for nearly 20 years, for
their commitment to the community.
“Allan and Monica Haber have been
role models for small business owners,”
said Senator Ducheny. “Not only are
they committed to doing business in this
walkable community, they also make every
effort to support local charities, civic
groups and educational fundraisers on a
regular basis.”
The Habers are known for their willingness
to frequently give away ice cream and other
treats at events for local schoolchildren
and have also spoken before scout troops
about small business ownership so that the
troop members may earn their badges. They
also have participated, in conjunction with
local dentists, in giving away sugar-free
candy at a local Halloween Carnival to teach
children about the importance of healthy
choices.
Allan Haber credits the support from his
family, the community and professional business
organizations for helping them succeed.
He also is enthusiastic about their ability
to make a difference in the lives of the
area’s children and families.
“We have a unique opportunity to help
kids within our community,” said Haber.
“We thought we were opening an ice
cream and candy store, but we opened a business
that creates memories for all of us and
is able to transport us to happy times in
our childhood.”
The Habers will be honored by Senator Ducheny
in a ceremony on Wednesday, June 15 in Sacramento
during a luncheon sponsored by the California
Small Business Association.
The Treatery is located at 1392 East Palomar
Street in Chula Vista, and the phone number
is (619) 619-946-7976. Photos available
upon request.
Senator Denise Ducheny represents parts
of San Diego and Riverside Counties and
all of Imperial County.
